This project uses peculiar objects to influence space, and hence, approaches a moving landscape in this way. When objects move around the whole island and arrive in new locations, they become 'airborne objects' and their presence alters landscape in new ways.
How can we experience the passage of time, outside of the stiff numbers changing on our phone or watch? The people of Sheppey will tell you that one hour means that I see 4 times the red balloon floating over my head. When they find the money cat appearing in the centre of the landscape, they know it is time to get off work and enjoy the night. When the money cat leave the site, they know a new day is coming.The arrival of the church means that Sunday, Rest Day, is coming. Queenborough holds a sailing boat competition every month, the Champion boat will be exhibited in the centre of the landscape. When you can see a new champion sailing boat coming, people know a month has passed. Every season the Minster Cliff will be checked and a piece of stone cut out to avoid its collapse. It will be moved to the centre landscape. The summer stone is moved with the flowers and the winter stone moved with the snow. At the edge of the island, the Floating Cow follows the shore around the island. In measuring how far it is from the estuary, you will notice this year has already passed a lot.
The Floating Cow enters the estuary and arrives at the centre landscape at the most important day of the year, 23rd of August, The Sea Festival, which is a traditional carnival.
