The project proposes a hybrid cemetery-museum typology amidst an ever-evolving landscape, harnessing the transformative power of history’s ruins. Through a curated accumulation process, fragments of the past gain sculptural agency.
In a cinematic exploration, a catalogue emerges, drawing from descriptions in a German writer’s letters and books about the island, interweaving reality and imagination. The film dwells at the crossroads of these realms, navigating the boundaries of fiction and truth.
The sunken ship embodies an uncertain future for the island, exerting influence on both its past and present environment. By studying the conditions surrounding the wreck, it be- comes evident that objects alter the current flow, thus shaping sedimentation and accumu- lation. In response, a dual identity proposal takes shape.
Through the establishment of burial zones, a poignant funerary ritual takes shape, facilitating the reconfiguration of historical debris as integral components of the landscape. Embracing the notion of “spoliation of history,” new terrain emerges, serving as a tangible repository of the land’s collective memory. As fragments gradually anchor themselves to the seabed, an evocative process unfolds, ultimately giving rise to novel spaces, imbued with the essence of time’s relentless passage.
