From a phenomenological perspective, we humans perceive our surroundings through our senses, making our understanding of the environment inherently personal and subjective. Different viewers have different interpretations of a landscape; for instance, a child may see a mountain as taller than an adult does.

In "Islands in Perception," a walk around Loch na Keal on the Isle of Mull creates ninety-six islands from ninety-six viewpoints of the island Eorsa, which was never actually approached during the project.

Five of these views are chosen to craft narratives of five fictional islands. This process distorts the island from what we see and don’t see. These narratives interweave truth with fiction, projecting imaginations of the islands across the water, layered with the history, industry, ecology, geology, and myths of the Isle of Mull
