There is only so much time until they know you’re there.

How could a community of landowners, farmers and nature-goers become closer allies with their non-human neighbours in the Lower Windrush Valley? How could they initiate, and then witness, positive changes in the natural world around them and encourage more people to observe it as it evolves?

In the bid to attract more bird species and greater levels of biodiversity to this unique landscape, the project proposes a hub which will harness the community’s ability to become stewards of restoration, preservation, and observation.

A lecture hall and an outdoor growing courtyard provide space for educating about ecology and regenerative land management practices, while a market hall hosts frequent farmer’s markets, where local people and visitors alike can appreciate, support, and connect with stewards of the land.

Weaving around these larger volumes throughout the proposal are a series of observation spaces, each focussing on different aspects of the surrounding landscape and wildlife, including a lake and its wetland birds, an island, a woodland and a pasture as well as a green roof and its resident insects.
